COLORADO SPRINGS -- The shooting deaths of three parents at Planned Parenthood clinic last week appear unlikely to spur any sweeping changes in this generally gun-friendly state. Gov. John Hickenlooper, one of the state's strongest voices for reducing gun violence, said he believes a "quilt" of relatively small-scale changes will likely be more effective than any major effort. Hickenlooper, a Democrat, said the state's residents are skeptical of big changes that may prove ineffective while simultaneously burdening the vast majority of law-abiding gun owners. And at least one Republican lawmaker says Planned Parenthood itself is to blame for the attack -- not just the man facing charges. Robert Lewis Dear is being held without bond in connection with the three Friday deaths, including that of a police officer responding to what became a nearly five-hour standoff. Authorities have declined to say what kind of gun he had, but police officers on their radios repeatedly called it an AK-47, a powerful and inexpensive rifle usually equipped with a large magazine allowing to be fired repeatedly without reloading. www.usatoday.com/story/news/2015/12/01/colorado-shooting-planned-parenthood-gun-control/76627268/
