Andi posted a fine article on the Medicinal uses of Pine needles and Pitch, however Pine Pitch has many utilitarian uses as well. The Indians used it as an adhesive for fixing their Arrow Heads and Fletching to Arrows. Pine Pitch is very brittle when it dries, so the Indians mixed melted Pitch with a little Fat and Charcoal to make it flexible. Pine Pitch mixed with powdered Clam Shells makes a very strong Epoxy like adhesive, and last but not least Pitch spread on a piece of Leather with Sand sprinkled over the top and allowed to dry makes very serviceable Sand Paper. You can experiment with different mixtures to come up with what you might need. To find Pine Pitch just look for the little "blisters" on Pine Trees with the Pine Sap oozing out, and collect it by coating the end of a stick with it until you have a ball of pitch. These can be dried and stored until needed.
